                       There are two main types:

Decreasing Term / Mortgage Protection - capital repayment mortgages

Designed to repay your outstanding repayment mortgage debt in the event of your death

Level Term - interest only mortgages, family protection

The amount of life cover remains level throughout the term. Can be used to pay off an interest only mortgage in the event of death. Cost effective way of providing a lump sum for members of your family upon your death during a specified period. The lump sum payable is tax free.

          Family Income Benefit

Provides a series of lump sum payments until the end of the term in the event of your death within your chosen term. Aim is to pay a regular tax-free "income" to your dependents in the event of your death.

The range of illnesses covered varies from provider to provider, make sure you read the key features documents, the cheapest is not always the best.
